Chimanlal advises Murthy about cleaning toilets
Murthy learns the power of Ahimsa. He has been doing a bad job cleaning the toilets because he feels the task does not befit his upper-caste status. Chimanlal, who dedicated his entire life to managing the Gandhi ashram, advises Murthy on the necessity of cleaning toilets without a sense of shame or disgust. When Chimanlal tells Murthy about how Gandhi thinks of toilet-cleaning as soul-purification, and how without soul-purification, there cannot be social change, the power of this thought dawns on Murthy, and sets off a transformation.
